The secret societies are integral to The Secret World. Players must eventually pick a side in the conflict. By revealing the three societies – and at the same time keeping some exciting new features under wraps – we provide players with the opportunity to dig deeper into the conspiracies and urban legends, and to learn more about these famous secret societies, before making their final decision when the game launches. Producer and Director Ragnar Tørnquist
Norwegian studio Funcom has released new trailer for its third massively multiplayer online game The Secret World. The game takes place in a modern-day setting of our near-future version of the world. The new trailer, much like the previous one doesn’t reveal much about the game.
Funcom’s contemporary dark fantasy, The Secret World, is an MMO with a cliffhanger ending. So says its creator, Ragnar Tørnquist.
Can you just explain the classless progression idea?
Tørnquist: We wanted to make a game system that was at home in the modern world. We wanted to give people freedom to be what they want to be, and play how they want to play. Players will have a sort of deck of cards which will say how their character is going to be. It’s much more dynamic than other such games, you won’t get stuck as the tank or the healer, and you should be able to contribute to the process and to the party no matter who you are. Clothes aren’t going to have stats – you can choose whether you want to wear sneakers and a T-shirt, or if you want full goth outfit, or a dress and high heels. All those things are possible, and they’re not going to effect how your character plays.
The internetz was hit with an awesome looking game trailer for a MMORPG in development named “The Secret World”. If you have been under a rock like I have, you had no idea this was in the making and that it was so different from everything else currently on the market or in development. Apparently, The Secret World is placed in current day Earth but monsters, myths and legends of old and new are real. The dark fantasy title will start with New York, London and Seoul as first playable locations and is promising some unique features with accent being on story telling. To read more about the title I recommend you visit Massively.com and their GDC ’09 article about the game as well as their interview with the game’s creator. The game is being developed by Funcom (yes, the people that managed to screw up Age of Conan) and still has no release date.
