Imperial Agent Full Disclosure

One of the more interesting classes of the Sith Empire got some Friday Update love yesterday. Imperial Agent is a mix of stealth, healing and high DPS, which is not something you see often in a class. The agent can specialize to be an Operative for close range combat/healing option or a Sniper for all […]

SWtoR: New Class Revealed – Trooper

All the theories and predictions that the next class to be revealed is going to be the smuggler were dead wrong. The class to emerge from the revolution torn world of Ord Mantell is none other than the Republic Trooper. Now remember kids, this is not your Imperial trooper clone. This is thousands of years before Darth Vader’s Storm Troopers. They might look alike but they are the good guys – defending the Republic alongside the Jedi. The official announcement reads as follows:

We are excited to reveal the next playable character class in Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ – the Trooper!

The Trooper is an elite combat specialist in the Republic military armed with heavy blaster rifles and nearly impenetrable armor designed by the military’s top engineers. Trained to beat almost any odds, the Trooper battles deep behind enemy lines to carry out precise, hard hitting strikes against the enemy, with a barrage of blaster-fire and a few carefully aimed firebombs. Even Sith Lords are wise to think twice before engaging in combat with the Trooper—this is what it means to be one of the Republic’s finest.

Check out the latest screenshots in our gallery below (including the walpapers). The official page presenting the Trooper is here, while in conjunction there is an interview with the SWtoR’s principal lead writer Daniel Erickson and lead combat designer Damion Schubert going deeper into the creation of the Trooper.[PSGallery=wd24q7ade]

Developer’s blog – awesome or clone?

Daniel Erickson, Principal Lead Writer on SW:TOR posted another developer’s blog entry on the official site. He goes into depth on what and how certain design choices were made when creating the Bounty Hunter class. It is a very interesting read full of hints about what Bioware’s design philosophy is. Things feel a lot like KOTOR and Mass Effect, which is a good thing mind you. One thing is for sure, this game will not only try to copy Blizzard’s successful design choices. Bioware has enough integrity and faith in its game creation abilities to decide to take some “unorthodox” paths. For example:

There were a few decisions we made early on. First of all, there would be two distinct factions. This was Star Wars™, not Star Neutral Guy’s Adventure. When there is a war that spans an entire galaxy, nobody can stand on the sidelines … The war affects everyone, even if they’d rather it didn’t.

I like this non conditional approach. It is making you make choices, choices that will have distinct consequences and make your playing experience that much unique. I am just hoping they don’t go overboard and make it a directed experience instead of unique. A fine line they have to walk here.

Bounty Hunter Class Revealed

Gritty and harsh, laser revolver wielding bounty hunter is sure going to have a lot of fans.

The announcement of the Bounty Hunter Class is exciting in so many ways I don’t know where to begin. Announcement of classes is always a sign of the game’s beta incoming soon (let’s define “soon” as 6 months for example). Than, there’s the assumption of having a class that will not be just another light saber wielding class. You see, with most of the other Star Wars games once you acquire the light saber you can pretty much lose everything else because the light saber is so appealing/powerful. Official announcement and videos about our favorite antihero are below the break.
